I've read Dream Count and my favourite thing about it is the conversations it has generated, both online and offline. I love that about it! The book on the other hand? I'm afraid I share most of your opinions on it. I'm currently reading a collection of essays by Chinua Achebe (the GOAT), gloriously titled "The Education of A British-Protected Child" That title does something to me, I'll give you that. Ouuuu and about your thoughts on "Martyr!" girllll I've had that book on my tbr because all the people I respect like it. You're the first somewhat dissenting voice I've heard on this.
I’ve never read any of Achebe’s non-fiction but that title sounds intriguing. And with Martyr!, yes! There are so many amazing reviews and I don’t know if it’s a wrong book + wrong time situation, but I found myself slogging through it 😭 I enjoyed the beginning a bit but lost interest soon. If you ever get around to reading it, let me know what you think.
I'm looking forward to reading Dream Count. These days I find myself liking utterly annoying characters in fiction more and more.
Haha, then I think Dream Count will suite your taste. I hope you enjoy it!
I just read The palour wife
Did you enjoy it?
I did
I love that in a way it wasn't as the Nigerian way if writing traumatic stories, it wasn't that deep
Exactly! That was refreshing.
