Ahaha same, I wear it with pride! Yes, I’d recommend both of those if you’re a fan of contemporary fiction and are in the mood for thoughtful reflections on romantic relationships in this day and age.

I’m loving your Reading Nook newsletters! I’m also in a season of not punishing myself with reading goals and instead only reading books I’m excited about when I’m excited to read then. It’s the best, and it’s so nice to see others doing something similar.

Books I’ve loved so far this year are Good Material by Dolly Alderton and The Husbands by Holly Gramazio. The list of ones I started and did not finish this year so far more than doubles that 😂

Thank you so much, Ronnie! I'm so so glad you enjoy these newsletters. I've heard about both books you mentioned. Would you recommend them? Honestly, quitting books you don't enjoy is so much better than slogging through them and losing your excitement for reading. I used to hate not finishing books, but now I'm proud of how long my DNF list is 😂

Fatima,if you liked Homegoing you will definetely like the Ségou saga by Maryse Condé. It's the same type of books, showing different generations of the same family around the time Islam and the translatlantic slave trade arrived around Timbuktu. Maryse Condé is a great french Carribean writer, who lived a different parts of africa around the independence times. Se died a few months ago and you should looked into her translated work. Segou is a masterpiece but I couldn't even finish the first book because books who deal with slavery and black trauma in general make me so depressed. that's why I'm never reading Homegoing 😅 Otherwise june has been a no reading month for me, too much going on, not enough mental space, but books aren't going anywhere so I never put pressure on myself to read when my brain refuses.

“but books aren't going anywhere” I love this so much. Sometimes I struggle with this but that’s such a good reminder. Thank you for the recommendation. I’ll put it on my TBR and hopefully it won’t be to depressing for me 😭 Btw, I’m currently reading something you recommend. The anthology: The Black Girl Survives in This One.

I love Grady Hendrix! I'm on a mission to read all his books. My fave book of his so far is How to Sell a Haunted House. The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires is next on the list!
